After the deaths of half of his group due to Crawford, he fled along with Brie, Clive, Boyd, and Joyce. Unfortunately, Vernon fell in both categories, and was targeted, along with the rest of his support group. ![]() Crawford's leader, however, began eliminating certain "liabilities" in his town, including the sick and elderly. He, along with the rest of his support group, moved into Crawford, seeking a safe haven from the walkers. He had a brother who lived in Macon, and he also had a daughter, but she died within the first week of the outbreak.įollowing the zombie outbreak, Vernon's daughter was killed by the epidemic. Boyd then says that Vernon's actions were the actual cause of their group falling apart.Īlmost nothing is known about Vernon's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except that he was a doctor in the city of Savannah, and knew Brie and the other morgue survivors for a few years prior to the outbreak, as he was the head of a cancer support group. Boyd states that "Vernon was out for the boat the whole time," suggesting that taking the boat was his plan all along. However in 400 Days, it's revealed that Vernon's motivations may have been rooted in selfishness. Christa attempts to justify his actions saying that he was doing it for the good of his group, and anyone would have done the same. Depending on how he was treated, he can either show remorse or none. However, Vernon's true colors are revealed when he steals the group's boat. After the successful mission to Crawford, Vernon offers to take Clementine with him as it would be safer for her. He is also shown to care for the safety of Clementine. Vernon is shown to be helpful and kind, as he is willing to help Omid with his injured leg. When Lee says he needs to get back to Clementine, Vernon shows sympathy since it reminded him of his own daughter. ![]() Because of this, he needs to always be around to give them constant care. Vernon is part of a cancer survivor group and is their only doctor. However if Lee is non-threatening, Vernon will be friendly. If Lee is hostile with him and his group, he will treat Lee with disdain. Vernon's view on Lee is heavily determined on how Lee acts when they first meet. Vernon initially seems to be a sensible, caring, and stern man.
